Adam Levine is officially this year's "Sexiest Man Alive"! The Maroon 5 singer and coach on The Voice beat out hotties like Justin Timberlake and David Beckham to win the accolade bestowed each year by People magazine. Rumors were swirling last week that Levine had been given the title of Sexiest Man Alive, but those rumors have been confirmed now that the cover has been released (the issue hits newsstands on Friday).
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Levine remained publically modest about receiving the award. “As a musician, you have fantasies that you want to win Grammys, but I didn’t really think that this was on the table,” he said in the People cover story. “I was just amazed and stunned and it almost seemed like they were kidding, but they weren’t kidding, so that’s cool.”
Nevertheless, his reported Sexiest Man Alive title is being criticized. Some commenters on message boards have suggested his rant earlier this year on The Voice, in which he quietly said “I hate his country,” should mean he doesn’t deserve the title. Other felt that celebrities also included in this year’s issue like Timberlake and Beckham should have been given the top honor.
The Maroon 5 singer also dished on marriage and his upcoming wedding to Behati Prinsloo. Levine popped the question to his girlfriend last July, acknowledging that he “didn’t think marriage was for me for a long time,” but that he “was ready when I was ready.” The couple will reportedly have a small ceremony in Prinsloo’s native country of Namibia and a larger ceremony in Los Angeles, where they currently live. However, Levine told Today co-host Savannah Guthrie that they “have a kind of 'ish' time. There’s no actual date.”
Although Levine has made it clear he is ready to settle down, some fans are concerned about his previous admissions of cheating on girlfriends. "There's two kinds of men: There are men who are f---ing misogynist pigs, and then there are men who just really love women, who think they're the most amazing people in the world, and that's me," he told Details magazine. "Maybe the reason I was promiscuous, and wanted to sleep with a lot of them, is that I love them so much."
