Ben Affleck made his first formal appearance since announcing his stint in rehab earlier this month. And the Justice League star is apparently doing better.
Affleck surprised fans at CinemaCon alongside co-stars Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Henry Cavill. He didn't address the crowd, as director Zack Snyder was the only one to speak. But he did pose for photos and even cracked a smile.
The outing came just weeks after Affleck revealed that he had recently sought treatment for alcohol addiction. He wrote at the time that addiction is something he's "dealt with in the past and will continue to confront."
Affleck continued, "I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen [Garner], who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."
Sources told E! News that Affleck's rehab stint had nothing to do with his split from Jennifer Garner. "He didn't want to cycle through anything he had dealt with in the past," an insider said. "He's moving in a healthy, balanced direction."
The source added that Affleck "learned a lot" in rehab and got to listen to others with similar stories. And it's clear his efforts have paid off.
"Ben is doing great," a source told ET last week. "He is still very taken aback by the outpouring of support since making his very personal announcement. As always, he’s enjoying spending time with his children and friends, and working."
Indeed, Affleck was spotted last week taking his son Sam to Disneyland. "Ben wanted to set up a special outing for the two of them," a source told E! News. "They had a special VIP Disneyland chaperone who helped them get to the front of the line. It was a great day for them."
And Affleck has been hanging out with his kids a lot over the past few weeks while Garner has been busy working. "He's with the kids now, couldn't be happier," his BFF Matt Damon told ET at CinemaCon. "Jen's working for a couple weeks in Atlanta, so he's Mr. Mom-ing it right now. And that's what he wants to be doing." Damon added that Affleck is feeling "fantastic" after rehab.
