In what should come as no surprise, one of Britney Spears’ manager has confirmed that the pop princess lip-syncs during her Las Vegas shows. But while rumors that Spears was not singing live have swirled for months, this is the first time a member of her team has acknowledged that the speculation is accurate. Adam Leber made the revelation during an interview with Medium.com.
“To put on the show that she puts on, it’s virtually impossible to sing the entire time and do what she does,” Leber said of Britney Spears’ Las Vegas show. “She’s singing on every song, basically, when she has the ability to sing. There’s no way you can dance for 90 minutes straight and sing the entire time.”
Many fans believed from the start that Britney Spears was lip-syncing during her Las Vegas shows. In February, one viewer posted an Instagram video revealing Spears’ microphone pack flying off during her performance. This temporarily moved Spears’ mic pack away from her mouth, yet her vocals appeared unaffected by this mishap.

A week later, another Instagram user caught Britney Spears seemingly forgetting to sing as the backing track for her single “Alien” began playing. This once again led to massive speculation that Spears was lip-syncing.

Still, from the start, Britney Spears and her team have insisted that she would sing live during the Las Vegas shows. In September, another of Britney Spears’ managers, Larry Rudolph, claimed that there would be no lip-syncing during her residency.
“She’s going to be singing live,” Rudolph told Billboard. “She does choreography and vocal coaching every day. The vocal coaching is really just to strengthen her voice and get her to a point where she can go out there every night and do a full show.”
A few months later, Britney Spears herself insisted that she would sing live in Las Vegas. In December, Spears told KISS-FM, “I’m definitely going to be singing live. I always sing live. It doesn't sound so great all the time, but I do my best.”
This revelation that Britney Spears lip-syncs might give her some negative press, but we doubt it will hurt her career too much. After all, many already assumed that she didn’t sing live, and that has not hindered her popularity. And we think more people go to a Spears concert for her dance moves and the overall spectacle, not because of her voice.
