When and where will Carrie Fisher’s funeral be held? New details about the Star Wars actress' memorial have been revealed.
Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, will have a joint private service on Thursday. Debbie Reynolds’ son, Todd Fisher, and Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, planned the ceremony together.
There will first be a small memorial for family and close friends at Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ compound in Beverly Hills. Mother and daughter will then be buried side-by-side at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Friday. Todd said that they will be buried “among friends” like Liberace and Bette Davis. While no celebrities will speak at the private memorial, Billie Lourd may say a few words if she feels like she can.
“I’m not sure what they’re calling it – a funeral or a wake – but it will be Thursday at the house,” a source told The Hollywood Reporter. “It will be exactly what they both wanted, to be together.”
There will likely also be a public memorial for the legendary actresses. Billie Lourd is planning this service, but she wants to get through the private funeral first before figuring out all the details. “Carrie loves a good party, so, you know, I’m sure she’ll want to throw a party for her,” Todd told ABC News.
Sources told TMZ that Meryl Streep will likely give the keynote eulogy at the public ceremony. Streep previously played Carrie Fisher in Postcards from the Edge and presented Debbie with a humanitarian award.
The public funeral will also focus on Carrie and Debbie's Hollywood careers. Both of their movie costumes will likely be on display. And the family will ask some of Carrie Fisher’s Star Wars co-stars to give speeches. George Lucas may also attend, as well.
