Carrie Underwood — or shall we say "the patron saint of animals" — decided to start her 2014 off on the right paw by volunteering at an animal shelter on Wednesday. And luckily for us, the country-singing, vegan-friendly star Instagrammed her entire day with the fuzzy, four-legged friends! "One [puppy] is trying to kiss me while one is trying to rip my scarf off!" Underwood captioned the knee-buckling photo of herself getting a new year kiss from a few puppies. Lucky! In another photo, the Nashville babe was all smiles as she held a trio of cute canines. "More cuties!!! #ShelterDogs #volunteering #Adopt."

And the cuteness didn’t stop there. The Sound of Music star couldn’t help but cozy up to more cuddly friends, like the dash hound T-Rex. “This guy was one of my favorites! T-Rex is his name, snuggling is his game! #ShelterDog

Underwood loves animals so much that the American Idol winner even became a vegetarian — and eventually vegan — to support barking, chirping, growling animals everywhere. "I'm a vegetarian because I love animals," she told PETA in 2013. "I grew up on a farm and they were all my pets! So the thought of me or someone else eating my pets kind of freaked me out at a young age."

Carrie Underwood Watch out, Carrie! Someone is trying to steal your scarf!

But something Underwood isn’t afraid to do is stand up to big government for her furry friends. In April, the blond beauty took on Tennessee lawmakers over passing the “ag-gag” bill, which prohibits undercover videotaping of factory farms that brings light to alleged animal abuse.

"Shame on TN lawmakers for passing the Ag Gag bill," the singer wrote to her 1.5 million followers. "If Gov. Bill Haslam signs this, he needs to expect me at his front door. Who's with me?"

Underwood is force to be reckoned with and doesn’t mind getting down and dirty when it comes to helping animals. Just check out her adorable Vine video of her hysterical cleaning accident!

“Spent the last couple days volunteering at an animal shelter. Lots of puppies = lots of poop!  Oh…so much…,”the sweatshirt-clad performer said, showing fans a smudge of dog doo that somehow ended up on her shoulder.

But Underwood didn’t mind too much. In fact, she’d do anything to help puppies — even give up singing! "If you told me I could never sing again, I'd say that was horrible, but it's not my life," she added. "If you told me I could never be around animals again, I would just die."
