Is Charles Manson dead or alive? The infamous killer was the victim of a death hoax that trended worldwide on Tuesday.

The rumors of Manson’s death were started by an organization called Now 8 News, which posted an article saying the killer had died in his jail cell at Corcoran State Prison. The story also included an alleged suicide note from the 80-year-old.

“As I write this letter on September 14 at 2:20 AM, I feel my soul rising to greatness,” the supposed suicide letter read. “I am God, a great leader. These children that come at you with knives, they are your children. You taught them. I didn’t teach them. I just tried to help them stand up. But you will see, I am immortal. My body may lay here right now, but in less than 24 hours I will rise from the dead just like the great Lazarus, exactly like Jesus – because I am God!”

However, it’s  now clear that this story of Charles Manson’s supposed death was just a hoax. A source told Gossip Cop that the killer is still alive and in jail. And a rep for Corcoran confirmed to a Hollywood Reporter writer that Manson is not dead.

Charles Manson, of course, is best known for being the mastermind behind a series of devastating murders in the late 1960s. His cult ultimately killed seven people, including actress Sharon Tate. Manson was eventually convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence in prison.

More recently, Charles Manson made headlines when a 25-year-old named “Star” claimed she planned to marry Manson. The two had talked on the phone frequently during his jail stay, and reports said they received a marriage license. But the wedding was called off in February, and sources said “Star,” whose real name is Afton Elaine Burton, had only wanted to marry him so she could display his corpse for profit after he died.
