Most of that money came from Bennington's career with Linkin Park, which sold 70 million albums worldwide. The band was at its peak in the early 2000s, though it still earned nearly $5.1 million in 2012.
Linkin Park used some of these earnings to start a venture capital firm called Machine Shop Ventures. The company was an early investor in Lyft, which likely brought in additional cash for the band members.
And Bennington was continuing to earn money in the weeks before his death. According to ThePRP.com, Linkin Park's July 3 concert in London grossed over $1.2 million.
Bennington's estate is continuing to earn money after his passing, as well. Sales of Linkin Park's most recent album, One More Light, soared 461 percent the week following his death. Three other Linkin Park albums also climbed into the Billboard 200 that week.
It's unclear if Bennington wrote a will before he died. But his immediate family will likely inherit most of his estate. He left behind six children plus his wife Talinda, who released a heartbreaking statement just one week after his passing.

"One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero-their Daddy," she said in part. "We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy. How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul? The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left."
The family's inheritance will likely include the mansion Bennington purchased just weeks before he died. TMZ reports that the 3,956-square-foot Palos Verdes Estates house cost $2.5 million back and includes five bedrooms, four bathrooms, three decks, a spa and a swimming pool.
Talinda, the kids, and Bennington's other loved ones mourned him at a private funeral on Saturday. Unsurprisingly, the ceremony was full of musical tributes and even featured a drum kit. Attendees included members of Dead By Sunrise and Julien-K, both of whom worked with Bennington before his death. Former Of Mice And Men singer Austin Carile also attended and posted a photo of passes and a program from the service.
