Christina Hendricks won't be starting a family any time soon. The sexy Mad Men actress and her husband, Geoffrey Arend, are perfectly happy to raise their new puppy instead.
"We've decided that we are not really interested in having children," Hendricks told Health magazine. "It seems like it's expected that you'd want to have kids."
"It's just very normal for people to say, 'Well, when you guys have kids…' And then when I say, 'Actually I don't think we're going to do that,' people will say, 'Oh, you say that now…'" Hendricks continued. "It doesn't bother me, though. And, you know, there's a small chance I could change my mind."
Though celeb moms often have kids in their late 30s or early 40s, the 38-year-old actress has made it clear they want to focus on their careers. Nevertheless, Hendricks doesn't seem to be one of those obsessed stars who is planning every move.
"I've never been that person who had a plan like 'In five years, I'm going to do this.'" she told Health magazine. "Things have shifted in ways that I would never have imagined. I never anticipated being a professional actor. I just assumed it would be in community theater—like after my job, I would go to rehearsal and be in a play."
The Mad Men actress is far from the only star in Hollywood who's decided not to have kids. These 5 celebs say they're not interested in starting a family.
1. Jennifer Westfeldt, Age 44
Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt have been in a serious relationship for over a decade, but they agree that kids are not in the cards for them. "I see my friends who have children and I'm like, 'Dude, how are you even upright, much less here at work at 6 a.m.?'" the Mad Men actor told Us Weekly.
2. Portia de Rossi, Age 41
Though we think Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi would be amazing parents, de Rossi said she doesn't foresee starting a family. "You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did," de Rossi told Out Magazine. "So it’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies -- but we’re the best of friends and married life is blissful, it really is."
3. Renee Zellweger, Age 44
Zellweger has been open about the fact that she doesn't want kids. “Motherhood has never been an ambition," she said. "I never have expectations like ‘when I’m 19 I’m going to do this, and by the time I’ve hit 25 I’m going to do that’. I just take things as they come, each day at a time, and if things happen, all well and good. I just want to be independent and be able to take care of myself.” According to reports, Zellweger is dating guitarist Doyle Bramhall.
4. Zooey Deschanel, Age 34
“[Having kids has] never been my focus,” Deschanel told Marie Claire in April 2012. “My sister was always very motherly, babysitting and stuff. I like kids, and I like being around kids, but it was never an ambition, something, like, I need. … I like working. That’s what I like doing. I like to work.” Deschanel and Benjamin Gibbard finalized their divorce in December 2012.
5. Helen Mirren, Age 68
Many younger actresses admire Helen Mirren's decision not pursue her career. And who can ignore her flawless figure at 68!
Always candid, Mirren shocked fans when she said: "I can't look at anything to do with childbirth. It absolutely disgusts me." Now that's an honest woman.
