Emma Stone has won the hearts of film-goers everywhere. With her sharp wit, captivating smile and impeccable sense of style, Stone has quietly become one of the most charming actresses in Hollywood.
The fiery redhead won for Best Actress Musical or Comedy tonight at the Golden Globes, and the movie won, as well, making it a top contender for the 2017 Oscars. The feel-good film is a classic musical about two Los Angeles residents in show business falling in love, but set in the modern era. The unique choice of production has received critical acclaim around the world and was chosen by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2016, and it won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Picture.
Of course, no one can overlook the on-screen chemistry Stone has with her co-star in the hit film, Ryan Gosling. The two dance and sing their way into fans' hearts. And it’s no surprise Gosling won the Best Actor Musical or Comedy award.
That chemistry started five years ago when they initially co-starred in the 2011 romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. Fans went crazy for the scene when Gosling takes his shirt off only to have Stone adorably say, “It’s like you’re photoshopped.”
Two years later, they reunited for the crime drama Gangster Squad before signing on to La La Land together. And off screen, they’re just as close. The two have admitted to texting each other frequently and are known for their playful nature during interviews.
Though Stone and Gosling are a powerhouse duo, the 28-year-old actress is clearly a formidable force on her own. She convinced her parents to let her move to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue a career in acting, but didn’t make her feature film debut until 2007 in Superbad. She followed it up with a several more minor roles in movies like The House Bunny and Zombieland before landing her breakthrough role in 2010 as the star of Easy A.
The beauty quickly got pegged as a quirky and sarcastic character geared towards a teenage audience. But Stone wanted to be taken seriously and won over critics with her performance in The Help. While she landed other massive roles like Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the starlet still wanted to show the world her acting chops and took on a role in the Academy Award winning film Birdman.
Now Stone has made us and the critics fall in love with her all over again in La La Land, proving she’s got what it takes to be a serious actress in Hollywood.
