Evan Rachel Wood has had her fair share of critiques. But the Mildred Pierce actress admitted that no critics were harsher than those who opposed her four-year-relationship with legendary rocker Marilyn Manson.
Currently, the 26-year-old star is married to, and has a child with, actor Jamie Bell. But travel three years back in time and Wood’s face was splashed across the headline of every major publication due to her notorious romance with the dark-eyed artist.
"People were pretty mean," Wood recalled of her relationship with Manson, which began in 2006. "At the time, I hadn't yet been exposed to that kind of cruelty from strangers." Wood recalled being in the spotlight for her controversial romance with Manson — he was 36 and she was 19. "If people were wondering why I was acting so-called crazy or like a teenager, it's because I was. People go through phases. People make mistakes. People go through life and don't get it right every time." The two called off their engagement in Jan. 2010.
Wood confessed she can’t help but roll her eyes at those who criticize her past decisions. “Like, do people remember when they were that age?” she asked. “On this global level, people freak out. They like to be high and mighty and say, ‘Oh, look at that person. I’ve never done anything like that.’ But yes, you have. Everyone’s been a crazy kid.”
And according to Hollywood’s most recent celebrity poll, there are still “crazy kids” out there dating significant others with a large age-gap between them. Here are five of Tinseltown’s most outrageous age gap relationships:
1. Amber Tamblyn and David Cross:
"There's nothing really traditional about me,” the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star told Us Weekly regarding her gorgeous marigold wedding dress. And she wasn’t kidding! She and her hubby have a solid 19 years between them.
2. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi:
Cross isn’t the only Arrested Development star to engage in a relationship with a huge age gap. DeGeneres, 15 years de Rossi’s senior, wedded the blonde actress in 2008.
3. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones:
The two actors have more in common than you think despite their huge age gap. Both born on Sept. 25, the couple tied the knot in 2000 when CZJ was 31 and Douglas was 56 (that’s a 25-year-difference if you didn’t do the math.)
4. Celina Dion and Rene Angelil:
Dion and Angelil beat out Douglas and Jones for the couple with the largest age difference by one year! According to reports, Dion met her future husband, manager, and father to her three children when she was just 12 years old!
5. Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman
They may not be the couple with the widest range in age, but these two comics are definitely the funniest age-gap duo on the list. The two met in 2000 when the Parks and Recreation star was still unknown and 30 years old, while Mullally was 42 with an Emmy for playing Karen Walker on Will and Grace. Thirteen years later, the dynamic duo is still going strong.
