Will the Fifty Shades of Grey movie cast be revealed within a matter of weeks? One report says YES.
Speculation is building that the names of the actors playing the two leads, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, will be revealed at Comic-Con. This most likely refers to the San Diego version of the event, which is scheduled to begin on July 18.
Rumors continue to fly about the cast of the Fifty Shades movie, an adaptation of the popular erotic novel. Last week, the book’s author, E.L. James, attended a Robert Pattinson party, leading some to conclude that the Twilight actor had landed the coveted lead role.
Another hot name linked to the Fifty Shades movie cast is Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder. However, he implied last week that he had no idea who would earn the part. “Everyone has to realize every guy in Hollywood is up for this role,” he said. “It could be anyone — that’s how that goes.”
Other fan favorites for the role of Christian Grey include Matt Bomer of White Collar and Henry Cavill from the most recent Superman film, Man of Steel. Another name to cross off the Fifty Shades movie cast list is Armie Hammer. The Lone Ranger star apparently has no interest in the film.
“No one actually offered me the movie, but while I was working on Lone Ranger my agent brought it up, and I said ‘Nope,’” Hammer said. “I mean, come on — it’s just mommy porn. I’m not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone’s mouth. That doesn’t do it for me.”
Nearly as many actresses have been linked to the Anastasia Steele role. This includes Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls fame and Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones. Emma Watson was another early favorite for the role. But the Harry Potter actress quickly shot down those rumors on Twitter.
While a movie cast of Fifty Shades has yet to be announced, the highly-anticipated film now has an official release date. The adaptation is expected to hit North American theaters on August 1, 2014, while an international release date has not yet been announced.
“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen," Taylor-Johnson said in a statement. "For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika's book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too."
