American Idol has had its share of horrible auditions. Who could forget William Hung's disastrous performance of "She Bangs," which actually led to his fifteen minutes of fame? And even though Idol said that they weren't going to devote a lot of screen time to auditions gone wrong, there was one that they couldn't resist sharing with the world. Host Harry Connick Jr. decided to have a little fun with Keith Urban when Jennifer Lopez left the room and he sang a cringeworthy rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner".
"They're not laughing at you, they're laughing near you," Urban told him. "It's a no from me," Urban told the impromptu "contestant." Even though Connick didn't make it past the audition there were plenty of other hopefuls that did. After last night's episode, some fans believe that there is already a clear front runner. Marialle Sellars wowed the judges with a rendition of Bruno Mars' "Grenade" and Connick was super impressed with the 17-year-old. "You are gonna be a nightmare for the other competitors in this competition," Connick told her.
Jennifer Lopez then compared her to a cross between Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, and the young contestant was handed two golden tickets. But not before she took a cue from Connick and told the camera, "My name is Marialle Sellars and I plan on being the next American Idol." Obviously she has some big fans on the judges' panel, but it will be up to America to decide!
