Why did Jack Gilinsky get arrested? #FreeGilinsky started trending on Twitter after Jack Johnson's BFF was supposedly taken into custody. And Johnson caught the whole thing on Snapchat video! But Gilinsky has since been released from jail.

The first clip shows Gilinksy talking to airport police about a sweatshirt. A few minutes later, he is handcuffed and taken away. Johnson then posted a photo of the arrest with the caption, "See u in a few years bud."E

In another Snapchat video, Jack Johnson explained what happened. "So I did not expect these guys to actually take this kid to jail, " Johnson said. "He accidentally  stole this sweatshirt, complete accident. Instantly turned around and offered to pay for it, and the manager still wanted him to go to jail. …This is not a joke. This is not a prank."  Johnson then revealed that he was waiting for an Uber so he could bail Gilinsky out.

A short time later, Johnson posted another video outside the local police station. He started chanting "Free Gilinsky" and also posted that hashtag on Twitter. It has since gone viral, with several of Jack & Jack's friends getting involved in the movement.

Johnson eventually clarified that even the police were "laughing" about the situation. But the manager was being "petty" and insisted on pressing charges, even though Johnson offered to pay triple what the sweatshirt was worth.

"It's taking a little bit longer than expected [to free Gilinsky], Johnson added. "Jack just called me up from a pay phone and he said he's in a cell with a bunch of random men. So let's hope nothing too scarring is going on in there."

Some girls even came to the station and joined Johnson in his protest. Finally, Johnson posted on Snapchat that Gilinsky had been freed. And he was given some orange juice and a banana on his way out.

 Clearly, Gilinsky and Johnson are having a bit of fun with the arrest. Gilinsky even used the drama to promote Jack & Jack's upcoming single.
