"Janet is juicing right now and doing the super cleanse next. She is eating a little bit, but just lean proteins and vegetables," a source told ET. "This regime will put her back in fighting shape for her tour. She is also going to be working with a trainer to get back in tip-top form."
News of Janet Jackson's diet comes a week after she announced the resumption of her world tour. Jackson postponed the tour last year after getting pregnant with Eissa. In the video announcing the new tour dates, she admitted that she had "put on quite a few [pounds]."
Jackson is hoping that this new tour will be her best yet. And that means she will have to get back in pre-baby shape.
"She'll be coming out full force and unrestricted," an ET source said. "Janet will begin rigorously dieting. She wants to look her best for herself and her fans."
But even before Janet Jackson got pregnant, she had struggled with her weight in the past. She reportedly weighed 180 pounds in 2006. And she admitted in 2011 that she is an "emotional eater."
"There are people that don’t eat when they’re stressed. I eat when I stress, when I’m down, when I’m in that state of not being in the greatest space," she told Access Hollywood. "And that’s my place of comfort that I go to for that moment. Then I kick myself after doing it."
Jackson joined Nutrisystem in late 2011, which helped her get her weight under control. "You don't have to deprive yourself of things that you love, and that's what's so great about Nutrisystem," she told Us Weekly in 2012. "I eat the some of these things and you think to yourself, 'Oh, I shouldn't be having this!' because it's so good!"
Jackson also learned what triggered her binges, which allowed her to control them. And she hired trainer Tony Martinez to come up with fun workouts for her.
"I don’t like to work out, and I get bored easily," Jackson told Prevention.com in 2012. "Tony is great. He comes up with something new all the time. When I’m getting ready for a tour, I’ll work out with the dancers to build my endurance. He’ll put us in teams, and we’ll do all sorts of drills and races. Everybody is drenched with sweat before we start one dance step."
Still, even if Janet Jackson slims down for her new tour, she may not return to her skimpy outfits from years' past. After all, she dressed more conservatively when she was married to Wissam Al Mana. And even though the couple is no longer together, Al Mana may not want the mother of his child wearing overly sexual clothing. So the exes will likely come to a compromise about what she wears on stage.
