Is Jessica Simpson making a music comeback? The singer is best known these days for her Weight Watchers ad campaigns and Jessica Simpson Collection clothing line, which has amassed over $1 billion in sales. But Simpson first rose to fame for music, and she hasn’t released a new album since her 2010 release, Happy Christmas. Luckily for fans, her latest Twitter update could mean that the wait may soon be over.
Simpson took to Twitter last night and wrote: “I need to make music.” It’s unclear if she has plans to record a new album in the near future or if she simply has a desire to get back in the studio. But while her most recent releases have failed to match the success of 2003’s In This Skin, which sold over seven million copies, they have still managed to achieve commercial success. Her 2010 Christmas album sold over 500,000 copies worldwide, while her 2008 album, Do You Know, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts.
Unfortunately, music comeback success doesn’t necessarily run in the Simpson gene pool. Her younger sister, Ashlee, attempted to make a comeback after her infamous lip-syncing performance on Saturday Night Live, but her 2008 album, Bittersweet World, sold a scant 128,000 copies. The younger Simpson has not released any new music since then.
The singer most recently made headlines for reportedly selling the first photos of her newborn son, Ace Knute Johnson, to Us Weekly for $100,000. It’s the second child she’s had with Eric Johnson, after welcoming daughter Maxwell in May 2012. She accidentally revealed earlier this year on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she was expecting a boy and later told Ellen DeGeneres about the pregnancy differences this time around.
“This pregnancy is the complete opposite. Like with Maxwell, I felt amazing. Like I could do everything, eat everything. Do whatever I wanted. I had a lot of energy," she explained. "This time around ... I'm like exhausted. Eating Tums. That's my snack of choice."
Simpson and Johnson have postponed their wedding twice due to the unplanned pregnancies, but are now reportedly hoping to move forward with wedding plans by the end of the year.
