Counting On fans have been worried since Jill announced that she’d continue her missionary work despite her pregnancy. Jill previously told People, “We are planning to go back very soon. Then we will come back [to America] for the birth of the baby.”
But fans are concerned about Jill contracting the Zika virus during her missionary trip. Zika is prevalent in Central and South America. So pregnant women have been advised not to travel in that region. Those who go to El Salvador, where Jill went on her previous missions, are being advised to take "enhanced precautions." While places more than 6,500 feet above sea level are likely free of Zika-invested mosquitos, most of El Salvador is below 6,500 feet.
Despite fans' concerns, Jill isn't too stressed out. “There’s a level of ease that comes with your second pregnancy,” she told People. “Derick and I have been down this road together, so we’re comfortable. I’m just going to see how it goes, try to be healthy and prepare as much as I can. But this time I know that labor is unpredictable.”
So how are Jill and Derick preparing for Jill’s July due date? They still need to pick out a name for their baby boy. Back when she was pregnant with Israel, Jill told Today that they wouldn’t go with a letter theme. Instead, they were “talking about family names and Bible names.” So they’ll likely use similar inspirations for their second child's name.
Jill and Derick also have to get Israel ready to be a big brother. They previously said that Israel doesn’t really know what’s going on, but he’s excited about the pregnancy because other people are excited.
"Israel is gonna be a great big brother," Jill said. "He already loves, like, other little babies, and the only thing I think he's gonna have to work on is learning that babies that are smaller than you, you have to be more gentle with."
