John Travolta is doing all he can to apologize to Idina Menzel for his infamous name flub at the 2014 Oscars. According to E! News, Travolta sent the star of the Broadway musical If/Then a bunch of flowers to try to make up for his “Adele Dazeem” mistake.
“He sent her a big, gorgeous bouquet of flowers to her [If/Then] dressing room,” a source said. “It was HUGE. It was his apology to her. It was clear he felt very bad about it. And by the size of the arrangement it was an obvious ‘forgive me please’ gesture.”
John Travolta infamously referred Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem” before her musical performance of “Let It Go” at the Oscars. The Frozen star did not appear visibly affected by the flub, but viewers all over the world quickly mocked Travolta on social media. One website even created the Adele Dazeem Name Generator to “Travoltify” other names.

It is still unclear exactly what caused John Travolta to mess up Idina Menzel’s name so badly. E! News claimed the former Hairspray star did not pronounce anything close to “Adele Dazeem” during Oscar rehearsals.
“He knew how to say her name," a source said of John Travolta. "No one knows what happened. Maybe nerves just got the best of him."
No matter what the cause of the mistake, John Travolta clearly felt horrible about messing up Idina Menzel’s name. A few days after his “Adele Dazeem” flub, Travolta released a statement apologizing for the error. He also showed a good sense of humor about the whole situation.
“I’ve been beating myself up all day,” John Travolta said in a statement after his Idina Menzel name blunder. “Then I thought...what would Idina Menzel say? She'd say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented, and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!"
Indeed, Idina Menzel did let this “Adele Dazeem” flub go. According to E! News, the Broadway star hugged John Travolta following her Oscars performance.
“She laughed it off," a source of Idina Menzel’s reaction to John Travolta’s blunder. "She thought it was so funny. She was like, ‘What are you going to do?’ The Oscars were a dream come true for Idina, She wasn't going to let anything get in the way of that.”
But the writers of “Let It Go,” the husband-and-wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, were more upset about John Travolta’s mistake than Idina Menzel was. The duo spoke with People their reaction to the “Adele Dazeem” flub.
"We were sitting next to the president of music at Disney and he just went, 'Oh,' " Lopez said. "I don't know if you can print an inflection but it was amazing, and it just encompassed all the anxiety that we collectively felt at that moment."
Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez have clearly gotten over the mistake, as they even admitted using the aforementioned Adele Dazeem Name Generator. But it’s unclear if the president of Disney music was as forgiving. If not, then John Travolta may have to send him some flowers, as well.
