Johnny Depp has lost millions, and it doesn't look like his money problems will end anytime soon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp and his managers are fighting over who’s responsible for his lavish lifestyle and spending. Depp has lost millions in recent years. The managers reportedly told Depp in 2012 that he didn’t have enough money to cover his $2 million in monthly bills, but he says they mismanaged his money.
So how did Depp lose so much money? According to his former managers, Depp overspent his money. Depp has owned 14 residencies but now owns five. He’s also had a 40-person staff costing $3.6 million a year, a $350,000 per month 156-foot yacht, over 200 works of art including two paintings that cost $320,000 and one that cost $245,000, and a memorabilia collection. Depp has also had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to his ex Vanessa Paradis and their kids Lily-Rose and Jack.
In 2012, Depp agreed to sell his yacht to fix his money problems. In 2015, Depp then agreed to sell his chateau in Saint-Tropez, but Paradis convinced him to change his mind and take it off the market.
But this all just led to tension between Depp and his managers. In 2016, Depp fired Joel Mandel and his agent Tracey Jacobs. Depp also filed a $25 million lawsuit against the Mandels’ The Management Group for fraud, mismanagement, and more. TMG countersued saying Depp didn’t pay his commission and that they warned him about his spending. This has led to some serious issues with Depp’s estimated $200 net worth.
And not even his movie career could help him. Depp’s personal problems with Amber Heard and his legal issues with his managers affected Alice Through he Looking Glass. And Depp was reportedly difficult to work with on Pirates 5. Sources say he was constantly late, he was drinking heavily, he got into fights, and more.
Depp is a successful actor, though, and has made $25.7 million over the past two years thanks to the success from his past six movies. But all of that money went to service debt. He has made some other income besides that too though.
The question is: Who’s responsible for Depp’s money problems? He’s accused The Management Group of mishandling his money, while they say he’s responsible for his own spending and mismanagement. “I’ve worked very, very hard for a lot of years and trusted a lot of people,” Depp has said, “some who’ve clearly let me down.”
