Jonah Hill's weight has gone up and down over the years. And now it is definitely waaay down.
Stepping out on June 16 in a sleeveless top and shorts, the actor showed off a flatter stomach, toned legs and bulging biceps. And he's clearly taking his weight loss seriously. The War Dogs star was seen grabbing a smoothie at health food store Erewhon before hitting the gym.
Hill's weight loss journey has not been an easy one. The 33-year-old actor reportedly gained 40 pounds for his role in the 2015 film War Dogs. But he got advice from his friend and former co-star Channing Tatum on how he could lose weight.
"I gained weight for this movie War Dogs, and then I wanted to get in better shape, so I called Channing Tatum and said, 'Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?'" Hill said on The Tonight Show last summer. "And [Tatum] said, 'Yes, you dumb motherf--ker, of course, you will. It's the simplest thing in the entire world." The Oscar nominee listened to the Magic Mike star’s advice and decided to work with a nutritionist and keep a food journal.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Hill has made headlines for losing weight. He lost weight for his role in Moneyball by watching what he ate. “It was just mostly diet,” Hill said in 2012 of his weight loss. “I wish there was some crazy thing that I did, like a pill or a genie or something, but it was, unfortunately, I went to see a nutritionist, and he told me what to eat to change my habits and stuff ... I found that Japanese food was very helpful to me.”
But by mid-2012 before and after photos revealed he gained back the pounds he lost. “Being healthier came along with maturity,” he told Vulture at the time. “And it’s hard, because a lot of times people want you to be the guy you were when they met you. And I love doing funny movies, but I want to mature, literally, in how I treat myself. I’m not living in a frat house with a bong plastered to the table."
"But all this stuff [points to his body] is just part of maturing in body and in mind," he continued. "I just want to be a good man and to make my family proud. And, you know, I want to live a long time.”
