Kate Gosselin may be one of the most hated moms in the history of television. But she's desperate to make a comeback on TV any way she can. Despite countless fights with her ex-husband, Jon — and a very tense moment with her twin daughters, Mady and Cara, on the Today show — Kate is ready for her return, even if it's just a one-night TLC special.
It's been more than two years since Jon & Kate Plus 8 ended its four-year run on TLC. After the couple broke up in 2009 Jon left the show and it was renamed Kate Plus Eight, which seemed like a more apt description all along.
It's not clear whether Jon will appear on the special, but most insiders assume the answer is NO. Jon has been a vocal critic of his ex-wife, most recently on the VH1 show Couples Therapy, in which he appeared with his new girlfriend.
"Kate wants to still be on television," Kate's ex told Philadelphia magazine. "She's now digging into the past, because that's what sells."
Kate has plenty of fans on Instagram. A fan named micro_nene recently wrote: "Wish your show will be on. cause we all love your show, and your kids, even you too. Please we want your show back please put it back please Kate please. Your fans want to see your kids and you. We pleased you please put your show back please please please please please please please please please please we want to see your show please. We are your fans. Please please."
When the show began in 2007, viewers fell in love with the adorable children. But those kids have grown up! Twins Cara and Mady are 13. And the sextuplets — Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel — are 9. Venturing into their teenage years Cara and Mady, in particular, don't seem to have as much interest in listening to their mom, who is known for a type-A personality.
Kate has a reputation for being a perfectionist. So when the twins would not answer questions on the Today show in January 2014, their mother was reportedly enraged. "She was upset that they had a chance to speak for themselves and defend her and they blew it," a source told the Daily News at the time. "She told them, 'You embarrassed mommy,' and some people [backstage] heard. She was not happy."
Jon has often called his ex-wife a "bad mother," and he was quick to jump on the opportunity again after the disastrous Today show segment. "I felt really bad for Mady and Cara because I love them, and they’re put in this situation." he told TMZ.
It's not surprising that Jon is furious with Kate. Kate filed a lawsuit against him in federal court in August 2013 accusing him of stealing her hard drive and hacking into her phone and computer for personal information. When Jon appeared on Couples Therapy recently he told other stars on the show that Kate was vicious and abusive toward him.
Jon finally exploded on the VH1 show when he received a text message from Kate. “It’s narcissistic, bullsh*t behavior. And she can go out and talk about the kids anytime she wants!" he said. "She can tweet and have a f**kin’ website dedicated to them, every f**kin’ book she’s ever put out because she wants to keep being on television which is never gonna f**kin’ happen, so she can f**kin’ die.”
“There’s your honest depiction of Kate Gosselin. Piece of f**king sh*t. What a sh*tty human being.”
Despite the cursing, many Couples Therapy fans felt Jon came off as sympathetic this season. Is it fair that Kate has perpetually been portrayed as the conniving bully who is only interested in fame and money?
