Kate Hudson is no novice when it comes to fashion. In fact, the 34-year-old golden girl is on the cover of Harper Bazaar’s Best-Dressed issue. And for good reason! Have you seen Hudson strutting down the red carpet lately? From Versace to Gucci, the Clear History actress has been putting her fellow stars to shame as she dons perfectly executed styles that complement her toned body and bohemian personality.

Take her LACMA Art + Film Gala dress. The plunging Gucci gown could not have been more perfectly suited to Hudson's flawless figure. But there's a secret behind all Hudson's red-carpet styles: Most of them go back to where they came from. They're borrowed!

Kate Hudson, fashion, style, beauty Kate Hudson confesses she can't afford to buy couture!

“People think we own all these dresses,” she says, “but we borrow them! I can’t afford to buy that stuff. There are certain things I splurge on, but it’s very rare, especially when you have two kids and school tuition. I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper. I wish I could, but the truth is things are just so expensive. Before Isabel Marant was a million dollars and famous, I used to go to her store in Paris and go crazy, it was so affordable.”

The smart shopper explained that her thrifty ways run in the family. “My mom wasn’t a big shopper for us,” Hudson said of mother Goldie Hawn. “I think they wanted to instill that in us even though we grew up in a really privileged and lucky lifestyle.” But as for Hudson’s 8-year-old son Ryder, all he wants is a cell phone! “I see his friends texting people, and I just can’t do it,” Hudson explained. “The first device I got was a pager! I was 13, and it was hot pink.”
