Are Kate Middleton's hemlines too short? Prince William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth thinks so! Word has come down from the royal palace that it's time for the Duchess of Cambridge to get in line and lengthen those skirts. She can start with her upcoming tour of Australia, the queen says.
Middleton will “deploy a couture wardrobe of day dresses with lower hemlines than she has previously favoured” on an upcoming trip to Australia, the Mail reports. Uh-oh. Is there trouble in paradise?
It's no secret that Middleton has great legs. And she definitely likes to show them off. Thigh-high hems have never been on the agenda. But above-the-knee skirts are de rigueur for the duchess. Surprisingly, the short story was especially noticeable during Middleton's nine months of pregnancy.
Take a look at Middleton's five recent short-skirt moments below and tell us: Do you think Kate Middleton's skirt hems are inappropriate?
1. Kate Middleton's Dalmation Print Coat - June 2013
Fascinator? Check. Short hem? Check. Kate Middleton looked stunning when she went to the naming ceremony for the Royal Princess' cruise ship in Southampton, England, but with a growing baby bump her short hem hiked up a bit too high when she sat down during the ceremony.
2. Kate Middleton's Pop-Of-Yellow Coat - May 2013
Hello, Sunshine! Early on in her pregnancy, Middleton chose a bright-yellow suit jacket by New Zealand-born designer Emilia Wickstead. The pretty pastel was exquisite next to the duchess' dark locks during the queen's garden tea party, but note the difference in the hemlines between Camilla Parker Bowles and the duchess. Not good.
3. Kate Middleton's Polka-Dot Dress - April 2013
Spotted! One beautiful duchess who's having trouble keeping her skirt from flapping in the breeze. We adored the adorable Topshop maternity dress Middleton chose when she visited the Warner Bros. studio in Leavesden, Hertfordshirem, but the light fabric and short hem definitely led to some problems.
4. Kate Middleton's Light-Blue Dress - April 2013
Two days earlier on April 24, 2013, Kate Middleton was on alert for dress mishaps. As she toured the National Portrait Gallery with the director, she made sure to hold down her baby-blue Emilia Wickstead dress. Good job, Kate!
5. Kate Middleton's Patterned Dress - April 2013
We gave Kate Middleton huge props for taking a risk in a patterned Erdem dress when she visited The Willows Primary School in the Wythenshawe district near Manchester, northwest England in April 2013. But the combination of a clingy fabric and short hem wasn't helpful when Middleton walked and waved at fans.
