Could Keeping Up With The Kardashians be canceled in 2017? Bad ratings for the reality show leaves questions about the future of the E! Show.
While Kim Kardashian finally revealed all about her Paris robbery on last night’s episode of KUWTK, the family drama doesn’t seem to be interesting fans as much anymore. According to data posted by Showbuzz, the premiere episode of Season 13 drew a 0.70 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.48 million viewers. That’s not good.
In contrast, the Season 12 premiere drew a 1.05 rating in and got 2.19 million viewers when it aired last May. Not only did the show’s ratings dip in the last year, it’s also one of the lowest rated premieres ever since the show first aired. This is making people wonder if we’ve finally hit our saturation point with the Kardashian family, something Kris Jenner is reportedly not happy about.
The momager was hoping for big numbers this season and even lured a hesitant Kim with a big pay day. “Kris gave Kim a huge bonus to deliver for this upcoming season like she has never done before," a source told a tabloid website. "Kim and Kris both seem to think that their fans only really care about seeing Kanye’s breakdown and the aftermath of Kim’s robbery in Paris."
This certainly seems to ring true. Reviews of this season’s premiere episode were not the most positive with many fans said it was boring. On the episode, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe discussed their Dash store business, attended Kanye’s concert, and hung out with Jonathan Cheban in Miami and New York. Social media mavens Kylie and Kendall weren’t even on the episode. The only thing that wasn’t a total snooze fest was getting to finally meet Khloe’s new man Tristan Thompson.
This poor ratings announcement comes after spinoff show Rob & Chyna was been canceled by E! after just one season despite the on-again, off-again couple welcoming baby Dream. Caitlyn Jenner’s show I Am Cait was scrapped after just two seasons, and Khloe’s new show Revenge Body premiered with only 630,000 viewers, the lowest debut ever for a Kardashian family show on E!
One reason the show’s ratings could be down is that much of the news in the Kardashian’s personal lives has been covered in the news and tabloids. But more drama is to come on the show. Fans just watched the aftermath of Kim’s robbery ordeal in Paris play out on television, which was really the first time the reality star has talked in detail about the incident. Kanye’s breakdown will also play out on television.
