Lady Gaga seems to be in the midst of a beauty transformation, trading her trademark statement makeup and costumes for fresh-faced looks in a string of photos.

Gaga shared a makeup-free photo on Wednesday and looked nearly unrecognizable with freshly-dyed black hair. Gaga included a rather ominous caption for the au naturel picture, however, referencing her upcoming album titled ARTPOP. “As they pry the single from bleeding fingers. It’s a scary thing to revisit those things underneath, the pain in your past,” Gaga wrote. “But all I found was raw passion. I thought I was destroyed inside. I’m just ready to fight. Start the music,” she said.

Lady Gaga Without Makeup Lady Gaga shared this makeup-free photo with her Little Monsters, debuting freshly dyed raven black hair.

Lady Gaga was certainly raw in the no-makeup photo, which showcased her plump lips, deep-set eyes and carefully arched brows. The singer wore a loose white T-shirt in the makeup-free picture, letting it casually slip off her shoulder to showcase her plethora of tattoos. Missing from the selfie was the bald spot on the back of Gaga’s head, which she shaved as a tribute to Terry Richardson’s mother just days before.

“I did it for u Terry. I’m sorry about [your] mommy. She has princess die, but were all princess high,” Gaga tweeted alongside the debut picture of her partially-shaved hair. Aside from her hairstyle, however, the singer has been consistent in showcasing her natural beauty, posing in a string of makeup-free pictures in recent weeks.

Lady Gaga Without Makeup Lady Gaga tweeted this picture without makeup in 2012, but she quickly returned to her over-the-top looks. The singer seems to be sticking to fresh-faced beauty this time around.

On Monday, images from Lady Gaga’s V magazine shoot surfaced, showing the singer without makeup and posing nude with a thick mane of long blonde locks. Gaga showed off her toothy smile in the photo, covering her assets with only carefully placed hands. Lady Gaga first showed the world what she looked like without makeup in a 2011 Harper’s Bazaar shoot.

“Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside,” Gaga said at the time. The singer followed up in 2012 with a makeup-free picture captioned “have a beautiful day!,” which she tweeted to fans. And although Gaga quickly returned to her typical wacky outfits, it seems that, this time, the singer has decided to show the world that she really was “Born This Way.”
