Shocking fans of Jackie, Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress In A Motion Picture – Drama at the 2017 Golden Globes! The Elle star pulled off a huge upset, nabbing the award from Natalie Portman, a front-runner going into the evening. The other nominees in the category were Amy Adams (Arrival), Ruth Negga (Loving), and Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloan).

Huppert played a rape survivor out for revenge in the French movie Elle. She has had a lengthy film career, and some thought the Hollywood Foreign Press Association could favor an international actress. Huppert has also earned some Best Actress honors throughout awards season, including from the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

"I think the film works because you are left to make your own interpretations and explanations," Huppert previously said. "It really has multiple layers, like in life you can start with a comedy and end with a tragedy, you have darker moments and funny moments, it’s a roller coaster of course."

Jackie Natalie Portman Natalie Portman transformed into Jackie Kennedy for her role in 'Jackie.'

But Natalie Portman had been the favorite to win Best Actress in a Drama, with 1/4 odds on Gold Derby's website heading into the Golden Globes. Portman has earned raves for her portrayal of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. The film documents Kennedy in the days immediately following her husband's assassination.

"The more superficial details — the way she talked, the way she looked, the way she moved — are skills but portraying how she felt takes imagination,” Portman said of the role. "I love that she defined herself as a wife primarily but lived a life that was very counter to that, where she was her own woman. She became the author of her own story and his story."

There had also been predictions that Amy Adams could pull off the upset at the Golden Globes. Adams played a linguist who communicates with aliens in Arrival. And she has been a Globes favorite, with previous wins for American Hustle and Big Eyes.
