Zellweger recently did an interview with the BBC and opened up about the rumors about getting surgery. Once again, Zellweger slammed the tabloids for making up false stories about celebs. “It’s disconcerting when you see something you know is not true becoming the truth, simply because it’s been repeated enough,” she said. “It opens the floodgates for something that could be of far greater consequence.”

Zellweger says the false reports blur the lines. She told the BBC that these kinds of tabloid reports were “lowering the level of social discourse.”

Zellweger has faced plastic surgery rumors for years. Fans were constantly scrutinizing her face. But the plastic surgery rumors resurfaced after fans saw her at ELLE’s 21st Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration in October 2014.

Soon rumors started swirling that Zellweger got plastic surgery, Botox or fillers. Sources particularly pointed to changes around Zellweger’s eyes as proof.

But Zellweger said the rumors she got plastic surgery simply weren't true. She told People she was simply happy in life now and that it shows. Plus people do change as they get older. “People don’t know me [as] healthy for a while,” she said. “Perhaps I look different. Who doesn’t as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I’m happy.”

Then, this August, Zellweger responded to the plastic surgery rumors in a powerful op-ed for The Huffington Post on body shaming and tabloids. “I’m writing because to be fair to myself, I must make some claim on the truths of my life, and because witnessing the transmutation of tabloid fodder from speculation to truth is deeply troubling,” she wrote.

In her op-ed, Zellweger also talked about the scrutiny women face over their looks and how tabloids take the focus away from important issues. “Maybe we could talk more about our many true societal challenges and how we can do better,” she concluded.
