There is some healthy competition between Megyn Kelly and Savannah Guthrie on Today. But NBC has no plans to fire Guthrie, despite speculation Kelly could replace her.

NBC officially introduced Kelly at upfronts earlier this week. Her Sunday evening newsmagazine will debut this summer, and she will officially take over the 9 a.m. hour of Today in the fall.

IS MEGYN KELLY FEUDING WITH KELLY RIPA? UPDATE ...

"I feel so honored to be joining this historic, incredibly talented and winning team," Kelly said at upfronts. "I’m thrilled now to be able to anchor the kinds of broadcasts that I’d always dreamed I’d be able to do, that I felt in my heart I was born to do."

NBC is equally excited about Kelly's new deal with the network. After all, she could help Today in its ratings battle with Good Morning America. But her presence has raised questions about the other hosts at Today.

Already, there are reports that Kelly and Guthrie are feuding. A tabloid claimed this week that NBC has been giving Kelly all the big interviews, which is upsetting the longtime Today anchor.

Some have even wondered if NBC wants to replace Guthrie with Kelly. That speculation intensified when Kelly and Matt Lauer were spotted grabbing dinner without Guthrie this week.

But even if Kelly is getting special treatment, NBC is not firing Guthrie anytime soon. For starters, Kelly hasn't even debuted on the network yet. NBC will want to see how Kelly does with viewers before making any more major moves.

Guthrie also offers a soft balance to Kelly's tougher persona. So NBC will want to keep both of them around because they balance each other so well.

Besides, Lauer and Guthrie are known to be close friends. And Lauer has major influence at NBC. So there's no way he would let producers fire Guthrie.

Still, if Kelly continues to get all the major interviews, it could lead to more tension with Kelly. For now, however, Guthrie insists they get along just fine.

"She and I have a lot in common actually," Guthrie said during The Hollywood Reporter’s Anchor Roundtable. "We both went to law school and then ran screaming for our lives away from the law. We both came up in D.C. But yeah, we’re excited to have her. I think she’s going to be great. We feel lucky. We feel like it was a great get."
