The Season 4 finale of The Walking Dead is almost here, and we have to be honest: No one's safe. We should be hopeful. Last week on “Us” Maggie and Glenn found their way back into each other’s arms. They and the rest of their respective groups were the first to find their way to Terminus. And they were greeted by an idyllic setting. There were gates to keep them safe, food was growing, and a smiling woman named Mary was there to greet them. But we are freaking out. Something is telling us not to trust Terminus or this woman.
While we should be breathing a sigh of relief that Glenn, Maggie and the others finally made it, it feels like everyone is in imminent danger. Besides the possible danger lurking within Terminus’ walls, we still have to worry about the others who are continuing their trek to Terminus. Especially since Rick and Daryl’s new not-so-friendly friends could be a big problem. Plus, Beth is still out there somewhere, if she isn’t already dead.
Tension has been building throughout the second half of Season 4 of The Walking Dead. And we know something huge is going to happen on the finale. Andrea died on last season’s finale. And we know that The Walking Dead isn’t scared of killing off major characters. Will this season of The Walking Dead end with a death? Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, said: “We’re definitely going to [be] bringing things to another level.” That doesn’t really allay our fears.
So which characters could die in the Season 4 finale?
Will Carl make it to Terminus with his dad and Michonne? Rick killed a man back on Season 4, Episode 11’s “Claimed." And that death is coming back to haunt him. Daryl’s new gang had barged into the house Rick, Carl, and Michonne were staying in. And Rick killed one of the gang members while trying to get away unnoticed. Luckily, Carl and Michonne were out scavenging at the time. But it turns out Rick didn’t go unnoticed. Someone saw him, and now the gang is hunting him down. Rick, Carl, and Michonne are going to have to work to survive against this nasty bunch.
Robert Kirkman hinted that Rick will survive. But he also said: “This is Rick Grimes being pushed to his absolute limit. And if you think you’ve seen that before, you haven’t. And the Rick Grimes that comes out of this is really going to shock people.” Something’s going to change Rick during the finale. What could send Rick over the edge? Will he lose it trying to protect his son from the gang? And will Carl make it? Carl has proven he’s a fighter. He’s one of the few characters that has survived since Season 1. And we watched him grow up on The Walking Dead. Hopefully he can hold his own when the time comes.
There are plenty of people who would stop watching The Walking Dead if they killed off Daryl. Everyone’s obsessed with him. Robert Kirkman’s not worried, though. During a Reddit AMA he said: “In my opinion, I feel like characters ripen like fruit. So while I wouldn’t say the more popular a character is the more likely they are to die; they do have to reach a certain level of popularity before they’ve ‘earned’ the death. No character is too popular to die. (Suck it, Reedus!)” Norman Reedus plays Daryl. We might have to brace ourselves.
Daryl is in quite the quandary. He’s with this gang now. And the gang is tracking Rick. We’ve seen how brutal they can be. They viciously killed Len in “Us” because he lied about Daryl stealing his half of a rabbit. They would not hesitate to kill Daryl. Especially because he’s new, and he doesn’t really play nice with them. He can't take his chances around this group. But we all know Daryl. He’s incredibly loyal. If he sees Rick, Carl, and Michonne in trouble, he’s going to run in and help. Will Daryl be caught in the crossfire? We hope not!
There is another option in this confrontation. Joe the gang leader, or other gang members could die. While Joe has been taking Daryl under his wing, we would rather see him die than Rick, Michonne, Carl or Daryl. And it’s not like it’s going to be an easy fight. Rick, Carl and Michonne will fight back. And if Daryl comes to their aid, they might just make it out alive. Joe may just be getting more than he bargained for.
We still don’t know where Beth is. The last time we saw her on Season 4 Episode 13’s “Alone.” She was thrown into a car and taken away with Daryl tirelessly trying to get her back. We lost it. Is she alive? Is she dead? We could find out where she is and what happened to her in the season finale. One thing we do know, though, is that nice people don’t throw you in a car and kidnap you. This is especially true in the apocalypse. Things are not looking too good for Beth. Will Beth escape? Or will she be the next to go?
OK. So this could be anyone who made it to Terminus. It could also be anyone who decided to go on the mission to Washington to save the world after reaching Terminus. But Tara seems like the must vulnerable target. Yes, she bonded with Glenn and Abraham’s group. But she is still the only one who isn’t really attached. Nobody’s specifically looking out for her. They have more important people to worry about. And her head’s not in the right space because she’s still consumed by guilt over what happened with the Governor. Plus, she got injured in “Us.” She would probably be the first to go in that group.
