Will Rick Grimes die on The Walking Dead? Filming for Season 8 has just started, but predictions about Rick’s fate are already swirling.
Producer Scott Gimple hinted that Rick could lose “his own self” for the greater good on TWD. “Rick will suffer any loss, even his own self, to give his people and other people the life that they should live, where the world belongs to all of them and not just one person. A real life. That’s the only choice, so he’s willing to face the losses,” he said.
Now fans are freaking out that the group's leader could die in Season 8. After all, TWD faced declining ratings last season. So producers may want to change things up. Killing off the main character would do just that. Of course, it could also lead to backlash and more viewers fleeing the show.
For his part, Andrew Lincoln doesn’t know what will happen to his character. But he’s excited to find out.
“I can’t wait,” he previously told EW. “This is not hyperbole. This is not a cynical act to try and amp up enthusiasm for the hundredth episode in Season 8, but I am genuinely more excited about this next episode and the following 15 than I’ve ever been in my life. I can’t wait to get back.”
We’ll have wait and see whether Rick lives or dies when TWD comes back. But either way, Season 8 of The Walking Dead is going to be brutal now that Rick and Negan are in “all-out war.”
Gimple recently told EW that the show's format will be a bit different now that the war has begun. “By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, it’s going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck – shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together,” he said.
